Yuyao is located in East of Zhejiang on southern bank of the Yangtze River Delta and belongs to Shanghai Economic Zone. It is 40km west of the international port city of Ningbo, 120km east of Hangzhou. It faces Hangzhou Bay in the north and Siming Mountains in the south. The total area is 1,527 square kilometers. About 860 thousand people are living in 17towns (townships) and 6 neighborhoods.

Since adopting reform and opening policy, the economic construction and various social sectors of Yuyao have been developed very rapidly. A new economic structure has been formed with the agriculture as the basis, the industry as the pillar and the export production as the leading force. The economy of Yuyao develops at the rate of around 15% every year. In 2006, the gross domestic product (GDP) of the city reached RMB 24.0 billion and its financial revenue was RMB 5.02 billion. Yuyao is one of the top 50 counties (cities) with the comprehensive economic strength among over 2100 counties (cities) in China. It has primarily formed the local industrial system with the electronic and electric appliances machinery and instrument, mold and plastic as its three major industries and fine chemical industry, electromechanical products and new material as its new leading industries. In 2006, the total industrial output was RMB 118.1 billion and the total industrial economic volume ranked seventh in the province.

The opening economy of Yuyao develops very fast. In 2006, the self-operated export volume was 2.85 billion USD. There are 19 categories and more than 1000 sorts of export products. The electromechanical products cover 70% upwards of the total export. The products are exported to 156 countries and regions. Yuyao Economic Development Zone of Zhejiang Province

Yuyao Economic Development Zone was set up in 1992 and is one of the first provincial grade economic development zones approved and set up by Zhejiang provincial People's Government. The zone with the planned total area of 23.12square kilometers is divided into three sections, which are located in Western, Southern and Eastern parts of Yuyao. By the end of Tenth Five-Year period the major objectives of the national economy and social development of Yuyao City are as follows:
----Keep rapid economic growth. The GDP, with an annual increase of 10%, will reach RMB24 billion as per the calculation of the price in the Year 2000 and the GDP per person about RMB 28,000.
----Optimize and upgrade the industrial structure. The effective agriculture will obtain obvious results, the industrial advantages continue to be enhanced and the proportion of the service sector continues to be increased. The structure of the three industries will be adjusted to 9:61:30.
