On November 19, 1992, Ningbo Free Trade Zone (NFTZ) was established upon the approval of the State Council of China, covering the area of 2.3 square kilometers. In January 2002, NFTZ South Area was set up upon the approval of the State Council of China, covering the area of 0.4 square kilometers in the way of land replacement. NFTZ has main economic functions of export processing, international trade, bonded logistics and commodity exhibition. In June 2002, Ningbo Export Processing Zone (NEPZ) was set up with the approval of the State Council of China, covering the area of 3 square kilometers. With special preferential policies of “exempt from duty, bonded duty, and exempt from license”, NFTZ (NEPZ) operates in the way of “inside the territory, outside the Customs”. In China’s Mainland, NFTZ (NEPZ) is the area most opened to the outside world with most flexible operation system and most preferential policies. As an authority entrusted by Ningbo Municipal Government, The Administrative Committee of NFTZ and NEPZ operates integratively, carrying out administration of both NFTZ and NEPZ. At present, NFTZ and NEPZ enjoy mutual benefit and integrated development, and has thus become the area with most preferential investment environment and most completed economic functions in China’s Mainland.

Up to now, more than 4500 enterprises have been registered in NFTZ (NEPZ) with total registered capital of 27 billion Yuan, among which 742 enterprises are foreign invested with total investment of 3 billion US dollars. 152 high-tech projects have been introduced into NFTZ (NEPZ), with total investment of 2.26 billion US Dollars. Taiwan enterprises have a hot investment trend in NFTZ (NEPZ). 137 enterprises have been incorporated with 61 of manufacturing. Total investment has reached 1.13 billion US dollars. Therefore, NFTZ has become the largest Taiwan investment area in Zhejiang Province. At present, a complex industrial estate has been primarily formed with assorted industries including computer, semiconductor, photovoltaic, fine machinery, overseas Chinese scholars industrialization projects, software, international trade, logistics and etc. Thus, NFTZ (NEPZ) has become an important center of high-tech industry and import & export logistics.
