Ningbo Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone (shortened as Ningbo Hi-Tech Zone) is jointly founded in July, 1999 with a planned area coverage of 18.9 square kilometers, serves as the important technical innovation base of Yangtze River Delta as well as the important carrier of building an innovative city of Ningbo. It is upgraded to a state level zone in January 2007. Enterprises in Ningbo Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone are privileged to enjoy the active policies and regulations of national level hi-tech zone. Ningbo Hi-Tech Zone is advantageously located to the deep port eastward, Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway southward, the downtown westward and Hangzhou bay Bridge northward. Sitting to the city proper and backed by complete facilities and convenient transportation, the Zone boasts a pool of talents and beautiful surroundings. And after years of development, she has become a modern, cyber and eco-friendly zone. The Administrative Committee of the Zone has been strictly persisting in building the Zone at the nation level since the very foundation phase. Now the Zone has become an aggregation place for R&D organizations, high ranked talents, scientific enterprises and high-tech industries; and it has created an innovative chain linking high education, technique researching and developing, transformation of scientific achievements and industrialization. Location Advantages
Sitting to the east of Ningbo city proper, the Zone serves as the central district in a new round of urban development. The geographic advantage is high-lighted by a well developed transportation network: Jiangnan Highway and Tongtu Highway, connecting downtown Ningbo with Beilun District, pass across the Zone. To the east of the Zone there is the city's east ring road. Both the Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway and the State Coastal Expressway connect with the main road of the Zone. The Zone is 3 km from the nearest exit of expressway, 27 km from the airport, 18 km from Ningbo port and 4 km from downtown Ningbo. Sitting against the downtown area, the Zone enjoys the advantages of expedient information exchange and complete service facilities to offer entrepreneurs a quality living environment.

●New Energy
The industry of new energy has been developing very well in the Zone. A completed co-operation pattern of manufacturing, learning and researching has been formed within the Zone. The enterprises as Ningbo GP Energy Co.,Ltd. which is undertaking the project of lithium batteries, and Ningbo Solar Electric Power Co., Ltd. which is undertaking the project of solar batteries have become the most significant support for the Zone’s new energy industry. By far, there’re totally 14 enterprises of this field located in Ningbo City.
●Semiconductor and Photoelectricity
In Photoelectricity field, a developing industrial chain has been formed in Ningbo City, and it plays an important role at the downstream application processes in domestic market. The Zone has aggregated such internationally competitive enterprises like Ningbo Self Electronics Co.,Ltd., Sunpu-Opto Semiconductor Ltd. etc. The Zone is also a great industrial base for semiconductor, it has introduced tens of well known enterprises and organizations as Ningbo IC Designing Center CAS, Minxi Microelectronic Co.,Ltd., Daily Silver IMP Microelectronics Co.,Ltd, etc.

Ningbo Hi-Tech Zone has aggregated tens of nation level scientific resources and highly ranked engineering centers of enterprises, including 15 nation level scientific units or corresponding branches as Ningbo Material Technology & Engineering CAS, Ningbo Branch of Ordnance Science Institute China, and Sinopec Ningbo Engineering Company Limited; 76 city level scientific units as Ningbo IC Designing Center CAS, Microsoft Technology Center; and 145 company engineering centers. There’re about 28,000 of all kinds scientific talents working and living in the Zone including 3000 doctors and masters which make the zone a regional aggregation base for talented people.

The advantageous location, atmosphere of innovation, well completed industrial support facilities and comparatively low business cost make Ningbo Hi-Tech Zone an ideal place for developing headquarters of scientific enterprises. High technology industries develop so fast in the Zone that in 2006, the production value of hi-tech products hit 196 billion Yuan.
